speaking of wich,

The point of this message is somewhat tangentially related, but in any
case... First off, it's 209 days to Pennsic. (What's "Pennsic", you
ask? Well, for the unenlightened, might I suggest
http://www.pennsicwar.org/ for the official site, and
http://www.pennsic.net/ for a decent overview of what war is really
like) Believe it or not, now is not too early to start planning... what
does your summer look like? Got any vacation time coming? Want to spend a
week or two with 10,000 other scadians? No matter what other events you
may have been to, there really is nothing like Pennsic.

So, why am I *really* bringing this up now?

If you check out the Pennsic site fees, one thing you'll notice is that
there is a $25 difference between member and nonmember rates. If you head
over to www.sca.org, you'll notice that an associate membership costs
$20. Now, while I wouldn't presume that anyone is necessarily *flush* with
cash, you might want to consider the following. As of January 1, *all*
groups that charge site fees are required to collect an additional $3 from
non-members (with a couple of exceptions).
Each of these events will also be charging a $3 surcharge for
non-members. I'll let you do the math, as only you have any idea how many
of these events you'll be attending.

So, short form, if you have an extra $20 to spare right now, or if you're
at home and you can talk the folks into it, this might be a good time to
consider an SCA membership. An additional bit on the difference between
varying levels of membership follows.

Yours in service.
Abel Brem
