Noble Friends,
Today's History Blog report is all about a 14th century Danish Archbishop's
seal stamp (or matrix) that was recently discovered by a metal detectorist
in West Jutland.
The churchman in question was Esger, Archbishop of Lund. He was head of the
Danish church from 1310 until his death in 1325.
The matrix is an elongated, pointed oval with a cord loop on the back so
the bishop could handily wear it around his neck, just in case there was
some hot wax around that needed stamping.
You can see the matrix at https://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/72192 .
