[MR] History Blog: Galloway Hoard Rock Crystal Jar on Display

Noble friends, especially Fellow Scots:

Today's History Blog announced the public display of the rock crystal jar
from the famous Galloway Hoard. The jar is being displayed for the first
time since its 2014 discovery at a gallery in Kirkcudbright, Scotland. The
hoard was thought to have been buried around 900 CE.

The rock crystal part of the jar appears to be of Roman origin. The gold
filigree was later added by Anglo-Saxon craftsmen. It bears an abbreviated
inscription interpreted as "Bishop Hygauld Had Me Made". No bishop named
Hygauld is known from any records, but Hey!, this was the Dark Ages.
