Noble Friends,

On this date in 1585, King Richard III was killed at the Battle of
Bosworth. His usurpation of the English throne, the disappearance of "The
Princes in the Tower", and the discovery of his grave under a parking lot,
make him one of the most interesting, controversial, and famous British
rulers.

A summary of his life is found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_III_of_England .

One of the most fascinating aspects of Richard III's life is his severe
scoliosis, or curvature of the spine. This topic is explored in an episode
of *Secrets of the Dead*, a PBS documentary series under the title of
"Resurrecting Richard III". Part of the film details finding a young man
named Dominic Smee with an almost identical curvature, training him as a
body double of the king and teaching him to be a fully functional knight in
armor. Several clips from this episode are online at
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/resurrecting-richard-iii/1919/ . The
entire episode is available on YouTube at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmuvaaBYKaU .

The entire video is also available through Amazon Prime, Walmart and
several other sources (sorry, not as a freebie). It is well worth having in
any Scadian's collection.
