Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,
Today BBC Scotland has a sneak preview of an item from an upcoming
exhibition marking the 400th anniversary of the death of King of Scots
James VI/King of England James I.
The teaser item is the first letter known to have been written by the boy
king at the age of 7. In it he thanks the Countess of Mar, his guardian's
wife, for sending him some fruit. Yes, the spelling is atrocious, but even
today Scots English has no standard spelling (though Scots Gaelic finally
does), so let's give the kid a break.
The letter can be seen (and mostly) read at
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3dk8z21rzjo .
The exhibition, *World of King James VI & I*, opens 26 April at the
National Galleries of Scotland: Portrait in Edinburgh. Some of the items to
be displayed can be viewed at

Yours Aye,

business.
