This has long been a problem for us bards. Trying to perform, be it with song or story, while the discourteous in the audience cannot be bothered to suspend their conversations, has been a recurring predicament. In this situation, I have often been tempted to do like Dustin Hoffman's character in "Tootsie" who, while auditioning for a stage role as the director and producer continue a loud conversation with each other, finally stops and turns to them and asks, "Is my acting interrupting your talking?"

Dear Fellow Peers and Populace of Atlantia,

As I have sworn to advise when I was elevated; a situation has developed
that I feel the responsibility to share advice. While in some ways we are
still recovering from the Covid Era, we should remember Court Courtesy.

I witnessed and heard several peers chatting in the back of the hall. This
caused the hall in the Court to be noisier and harder for the Heralds. I
could hear the dull drone from the chatter in the back of the hall and a
Peer in the front row facing His Majesty, His Highness, and Their
Excellencies, who made quick a silent gesture to me behind Their
Excellencies commenting on the noise from the back of the hall as well.

Court is the opportunity for our Royals to acknowledge and celebrate
members of Their Populace. We in attendance should acknowledge and
celebrate these fine individuals, while not impeding others' ability to
follow along with Court business. Please be cognizant that when it is noisy
the Heralds have to compensate. By compensating some Heralds have
temporarily blown out their voices resulting in voices cracking and sore
throats (as examples).

I understand that for many of us court is old hat and we are blasé with it,
But this will always be some newcomers' first court, the court someone's
friends get the recognition they deserve. We may be jaded, but we have a
duty to the dream to make every court a magical space for someone's dream
to start.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

P.S.: Many thanks to those who proofread and counseled me regarding this
missive, and for the text I stole during their counsel.
