Noble Friends,

Wells Cathedral in Somerset is one of England's finest medieval gems. Among
its surviving 14th century features is Vicars' Close, said to be among the
oldest inhabited residential streets in Europe.

Vicars' Close was built to house the Cathedral's choristers, who had
lodgings scattered across the town and were perpetually late for services.
Some 27 of the original 42 row houses remain, along with other buildings
including a chapel. Time has not been kind to Vicars' Close, and many of
the houses are now receiving much needed repairs. The restoration will also
open some of the buildings to public tours.
