Noble Friends,

Today the History blog features a story on the restoration of the
spectacular 15th century baptismal font in the *Duomo di Siena*, Siena's
Cathedral. The *Battistero di San Giovanni *has been under a complex
restoration for the past three years.

The baptismal font was created between 1417 and 1431. Its hexagonal basin
is decorated by gilded bronze panels depicting the story of John the
Baptist created by Donatello and Lorenzo Ghiberti. Contributions by other
major artists grace the basin and the huge tabernacle rising from the
center.

More about the Battistero is found at

The cathedral houses many other treasures, and is itself a major work of
art: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siena_Cathedral .
