On this date in 1585 Hamnet Shakespeare's baptism was recorded in the
parish register at Stratford-upon-Avon's Holy Trinity Church. The exact
date of his birth is unknown.

Hamnet was the only known son of William Shakespeare, and was a fraternal
twin to his sister Judith. The twins were probably named for Hamnet Sadler,
a baker, and his wife Judith.

Hamnet Shakespeare's burial was recorded on 11 August 1596 at the same
church. The cause of his death is not known.

His father is thought by some scholars to have expressed his grief in
various poems and several plays, most famously HAMLET. This is disputed by
other Shakespeare scholars.
