Noble Friends,

Today the BBC has a brief illustrated feature on an Anglo-Saxon bowl which
was found by metal detector hobbyist. The find was on private land and
authorized by the landowner.

At first the finder thought the bowl was a Victorian-era bucket, but his
companions identified it as bronze even before it was completely recovered
from the soil. The bowl has a bail like a bucket, probably for suspending
it. The piece is largely intact, a rarity for bronze items of this age. The
bowl will go up for auction, and is expected to fetch £20,000-30,000.
