Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog is offering an illustrated story describing finds
from an intact Merovingian warrior's grave discovered in Ingelheim,
Germany.

>From the style of weaponry, researchers have tentatively dated the grave to
the 7th century. The warrior's kit included a spatha sword, a saex-type
knife/sword, a spear, a shield, and another smaller knife. Nearly all the
wood and leather parts of these weapons have rotted away, but the metal has
remained largely intact.

Enjoy the story at https://www.thehistoryblog.com .

Similar weapons are preserved in the Württemberg State Museum and may be
viewed at
https://www.landesmuseum-stuttgart.de/sammlung/sammlung-online/dk-liste/?search=true&sammlungs_id=4
. I couldn't get the English version to work, so it helps to know at least
a bit of German.

Yours Aye,
