Noble Friends,

In the past few weeks I have received two important books on SCA-period
clothing that are worthy of consideration by all members who make their own
duds (in my case hats are about as far as I can go, and our sewing machine
is dead).

THE TYPICAL TUDOR, RECONSTRUCTING EVERYDAY 16TH CENTURY DRESS by Jan
Malcolm-Davies and Ninya Mikhaila (Lightwater, UK: Fat Goose Press, 2022.
ISBN 9780956267443) is an extremely detailed work on clothes worn mostly by
commoners during the last century of our period of interest. As is typical
of other works from The Tudor Tailor, it includes period illustrations,
modern photos, drawings, sewing instructions, and patterns (which will have
to be blown up to full size). More on this work, and other books by Tudor
Tailor, is at https://www.tudortailor.com .

Revival Clothing offers THE BOOK OF HISTORIC FASHION, A NEWCOMER'S GUIDE TO
MEDIEVAL CLOTHING 1300-1450, by Nicole Allen and Gregory Mele (Wheaton, Il:
Freelance Academy Press, 2014. ISBN 9781937439156). This book has been
around for a while, but is new to me. It is partially based on drawings
from Revival Clothing's online catalog, and only details garments sold by
the company. It does not contain patterns (Revival Clothing does sell
patterns for many of its clothes), but is a handy reference to typical
men's and women's clothing of the late middle ages. It includes a very
clear text outlining the history and evolution of these garments. Read
about this book and view sample pages at
https://revivalclothing.com/product/book-of-medieval-fashion/ .
