Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog features a story on Anglo-Saxon brooches that have
been recovered from a Gloucestershire burial site.

They are so-called "saucer brooches", for their dish shape, and range from
20 to 70 millimeters in diameter (that's about 7/8 to 2 3/4 inches). They
were all found in pairs in seven separate graves dating from the 5th or 6th
century.

The story is at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/63766 .

More on saucer brooches, and Anglo-Saxon brooches of all types, is at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Saxon_brooches .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
