Noble Friends,

BBC Scotland is currently offering a brief feature on the Galloway Viking
Hoard, which will be displayed in Kirkcudbright until next summer. After
further display in Aberdeen, the treasures will go to their permanent home
in late 2022 at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The BBC piece includes photos of three of the most spectacular items from
the hoard, a brooch, an Anglo-Saxon pectoral cross and the silver urn
(described as a "lidded vessel") in which most of the treasure was
contained.

The story is at https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-58829729
.

More on the hoard and its significance is on the National Museum web site:

.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
