Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog reports that the famous "anatomically correct" chalk
figure in Dorset, the Cern Abbas Giant, is in fact medieval. Samples taken
from the deepest layers of the chalk have revealed that the randy figure
could date from as early as the 7th century and is likely Saxon in origin.
Also, analysis of tiny snail shells found in the chalk show they are of
species introduced to England during the middle ages. The scientific data
discounts previous claims that the Giant is pre-Roman.

The History Blog story is found at

The BBC has also offered stories on the discoveries:

the first story shows the figure as recently altered with an anti-covid
face mask.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
