Noble Friends,
Today the History Blog presents a very long article on the conservation
work at the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello in
the Venetian lagoon. This church is noted for its 11th century mosaics. The
mosaics are in the Byzantine style, and include elaborate tiled murals as
well as flooring.
You can read the story and see photos of the mosaics at
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/59745 .
More on the church and its treasure is found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torcello_Cathedral .
Yours Aye,
Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
