Noble Friends, Especially Saxons,

Today Wikipedia's "Did You Know" highlighted a gold ring from the West
Yorkshire hoard. This very interesting ring has a very large bezel, really
a sealed round box, in which something rattles. It is thought to be a
relic, possibly a bone fragment from some unknown saint. That is so cool!

This led me to investigate the main Wikipedia article about the hoard. This
small collection contains four gold rings of exquisite quality, a small
piece from a gold ingot, a gold fragment from a cloisonné brooch which
probably once sported inlaid garnets, and a lead disc thought to be a
spindle whorl. The objects were found by a metal detectorist in two batches
during 2008 and 2009. The treasures are now displayed in the Leeds City
Museum.

The Wikipedia article is found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Yorkshire_Hoard .

The MY LEARNING site has further discussion of the pieces, as well as great
photographs:

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
