Noble Friends,

Welcome to the Ides of November. Hardly as serious a day as the one in
March when Julius Caesar bought the farm, but 15 November 1280 was the
death date of Albertus Magnus.

AKA Albert of Cologne, Albertus was a Dominican friar who rose to be Bishop
of Cologne. He was a scholar, philosopher, and a prolific writer. Albertus
is among the 36 Doctors of the Church. He was beatified in 1622, but not
canonized until 1931.

In the popular world, Albertus Magnus is often thought of as an alchemist,
and even a sorcerer. He was well aware of alchemy, and made a few comments
upon it in his writings, mainly his belief in the power of various stones.
Albertus Magnus' reputation as an alchemist grew from a number of works
that were spuriously attributed to him in an attempt to give them some
cachet. There is no reliable historical evidence Albertus Magnus ever
practiced alchemy.

St. Albertus Magnus' remains rest in a modern tomb at the Dominican Church
of St. Andreas in Cologne.

More about him can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertus_Magnus
.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
