Noble Friends,

Today's History Blog concerns an exhibition of Renaissance-era small
stained glass panels. These panels were usually privately commissioned by
wealthy donors for religious and civic buildings. This art form was both
unique and popular in Switzerland and some of the bordering German areas
during the 16th century.

The Kunstmuseum Basel owns 20 of these rare pieces, and also many
preliminary studies and sketches. Selected parts of the collection will be
on display as the museum reopens this Tuesday. Today the History Blog is
offering four panels and four studies (click on the images for a larger
size). The colors on the panels are absolutely spectacular, and the images
show various figures in period costume, in one case builders and stone
cutters: http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/58624 .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
