Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog has a summary piece on the progress of preserving
the 15th century "Newport Ship". This wreck was discovered in 2002 during a
construction project. It was removed piece-by-piece for conservation and
eventual reassembly.

Not rich in artifacts, the ship apparently was being broken up when the
remains of the hull sank at the dock in Newport, likely around 1470. There
was no cargo or ballast, and precious few artifacts, on the ship. That
said, it happens to be the the only surviving mid-to-late 15th century
vessel, and study will reveal a great deal about ship construction at the
time.

The story is found at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/57655 .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
