Noble Friends,

Today the BBC is offering a story (with photos) on pieces from the Galloway
Silver Hoard found in 2014. This treasure was earlier described as Viking,
but five pieces have runic inscriptions of a type used by Anglo-Saxons and
not by Vikings. One piece has a name spelled out, "Ecgbeorht". This name is
now rendered as "Egbert", a common Anglo-Saxon name.

The story and photos are at
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-49905258 .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
