Noble Friends, Especially Vikings,

Yesterday the History Blog reported on serious fractures that have appeared
in the wood of the Gokstad Viking Ship in the Viking Ship Museum, Oslo.

The 1,000 year-old ship has been on display since 1932. It has been
supported on legs under the keel. The recently discovered cracks are under
the bow and stern which were not as well supported. Temporary cribbing has
been added to support the ends, though further conservation and new
supports will be needed.

The story and photos are found at

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
