Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog reports on the discovery of a parchment fragment
which contains an Irish translation from Latin of The Canon of Medicine by
Avicenna. The Latin is itself a 13th century translation from Arabic:
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/54466 .

The fragment, describing the physiology of jaws, necks and backs, was
reused in binding another book on local governmental administration. The
Irish text has been removed for preservation and digitization. The fragment
is the only known example of Avicenna's book in Irish.

The actual digitized fragment can be seen at

.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
