Noble Friends,

Today the BBC is offering a brief illustrated story about St.
Colmcille/Columba. Columba founded a monastery on the Scottish island of
Iona in 563, a monastery which still exists as a restored 13th century
church surrounded a whole mess of ornately carved stone crosses and
gravestones.

Columba is often said to have brought Christianity to Scotland. Not quite
so, as there were Christian hold-outs from Roman times in what would later
become Scotland. In addition, there were other evangelists working in the
area, including St. Ninian and St. Kentigern. What cannot be denied was the
tremendous influence that flowed from the monks of Iona under Columba and
his successors.

Here's the BBC story:

about Columba, try his Wikipedia bio at

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
