Noble Friends,

On this date in 1519, Lucrezia Borgia died from pregnancy complications.
Poor Lucrezia was used as a political pawn by her father Pope Alexander VI,
and her brother Cesar Borgia. She was forced into a series of marriages to
cement the Borgia's alliances with other powerful families the in Italian
power struggles of the time.

Lucrezia has often been the subject of scandalous claims and horrid
depictions in popular culture. Although she was certainly no saint, and had
a number of affairs, nothing else has ever been proven. These stories
include allegations that she was an arch poisoner. At least some of the
claims against Lucrezia were probably what is today called "fake news"
spread by the Borgia's many enemies.

Lucrezia's story is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucrezia_Borgia .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
