Noble Friends,

On this date in 1542, Lisa del Giocondo passed away at the Convent of
Sant'Orsola in Florence. Or maybe she didn't. Some authorities claim she
lived until 1551. In any case, Lisa was an otherwise typical middle class
Renaissance Italian woman of no particular accomplishment or distinction,
had her husband not commissioned a portrait of her from Leonardo da Vinci:

As you may have gathered from the subject line, Lisa is the same woman who
sat for the famous painting commonly known as The Mona Lisa, or La Joconde
