Noble Friends, Especially Vikings,
Today the BBC is offering a feature story on the discovery of a 10-12th
century Viking drinking hall. The foundations were unearthed during ongoing
excavations at the Skaill Farmstead site in the Orkney Islands. The hall is
thought to have been associated with Earl Sigurd the Stout, who is
mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-49250718 .
More about Earl Sigurd can be found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigurd_the_Stout .
A summary of the Orkneyinga Saga, including mention of Sigurd's death in
battle is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orkneyinga_saga .
Yours Aye,
Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
