Noble Friends,

A few days back the History Blog reported on the discovery of another
medieval game board at Vyborg castle in Russia. This board is incised into
a brick, rather than scratched into a stone as was the other recently found
board. The Vyborg example would have been used to play a game similar to
Nine Men's Morris.

The story can be found at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/52606 .

Nine Men's Morris is a checkers-like game frequently played by SCA members,
and simple boards can be made from wood in an evening. More about the game
can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_men%27s_morris .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
