Noble Friends,

Today the BBC is offering two stories about excavated items, both
originally found by metal detectorists.

In the first, a gold seal ring possibly dating to the 16th century has sold
at auction for £10,000. The ring, in perfect condition, has heraldic arms
thought to belong the the Skynner family. You can view this remarkable ring
at https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-46343473 .

The second story concerns an Anglo-Saxon cemetery being excavated in
Lincolnshire. The graves are of high-status people. Those of women were
found with domestic grave goods. The men's graves had remnants of various
weapons. The story with photos of two graves and a pair of gorgeous
brooches can be seen at
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-46347307 .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
