Noble Friends,

On this date in 1219, William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke died of natural
causes at the advanced age (for the time) of 72. William Marshal is often
called "The Greatest Knight", serving five English kings in war,
administration and diplomacy:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Marshal,_1st_Earl_of_Pembroke .

Marshal's tomb can be seen at the Temple Church in London, with a slightly
damaged effigy. On his deathbed, Marshal was invested as a Knight Templar:

and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Church .

Through several lines, William Marshal was ancestor to both the Bruce and
Stuart kings of Scotland, to the English Plantagenets, and to all English
kings since Henry VIII, which makes him an ancestor several ways to Queen
Elizabeth II.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
