Noble Friends,

Yesterday I picked up the March/April issue of Medieval Warfare at Barnes &
Noble (yes, it just hit the shelves here). The theme of this issue is Sir
John Hawkwood and other "condottieri" in Italy during the 14th century.

As some of you may know, Hawkwood was an English soldier who became the
most successful and famous of the mercenary captains during the inter-city
wars in Italy. Much of his army-for-hire was made up of Englishmen who were
left unemployed during a lull in the Hundred Years War. Many of these
soldiers were longbow archers, and the magazine has quite a bit of
information about them and their tactics.

For more about John Hawkwood, check out his bio on Wikipedia:

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
