Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

On this date in 1603, James VI of Scotland also became James I of England
when he succeeded Queen Elizabeth I. Whether you like him or despise him
(and there's a lot to say on both sides of that argument), he was the most
successful of all the Stewart monarchs. The Stewarts were for the most part
a batch of pitiful bunglers, or worse.

As James VI of Scotland up to this date, he is worthy of study in our SCA
period. As James I of England he is generally considered out of bounds, but
I promise not to tell if you take an interest in his later reign.

Wikipedia offers a fairly extensive biographical sketch King Jamie at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_VI_and_I .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
