Noble Friends,

We're all familiar with the Bayeux Tapestry, kite shields, arrow in the
eye, and all that stuff. Most viewers concentrate on the battle scenes in
the center strip, and never pay attention to the smaller figures along the
top and bottom. Look again. Some marginal figures are totally nude, and a
few appear to be about to engage in "adult" activities.

Those "naughty bits", as the Brits would say, didn't escape the attention
of the Victorians. In 1885 an "exact" copy of the tapestry was created, now
on display in Reading. Well, not quite exact. The randy figures acquired
loin cloths, or in some cases had as much male anatomy left as Barbie's
friend Ken. Even some of the stallions became mares in a blaze of Victorian
prudishness.

This delightful BBC video is in the style of Monty Python animation. Enjoy
