Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

Today the BBC is offering a brief story about a skull removed from a cave
on the Scottish island of Eigg. The skull is thought to have belonged to a
Macdonald who died in an infamous massacre during a feud with the Macleods
in 1577. The skull was . . . uh . . . "removed" ("pillaged" really comes to
mind) as a grim souvenir by the famous novelist Sir Walter Scott. Now the
skull will be subjected to rigorous scientific testing to see what it can
tell us about 16th c life in the Hebrides:

More about Eigg, including an account of the massacre, can be found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eigg .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
