Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots:

Today the BBC is offering a brief feature on excavations at the site of
Sheffield Castle. Until recently the castle site was covered by a market.
Before the site is redeveloped, archaeologists are being invited to conduct
excavations: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-45169410 .

The article shows a sketch as the castle might have looked in the 13th
Century as a motte-and-bailey castle. More about Sheffield Castle is at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield_Castle .

Sheffield Castle was one of the places Mary Queen of Scots was held before
her final transfer to Fotheringhay Castle where she was executed in 1587.
More about Mary Queen of Scots is found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary,_Queen_of_Scots .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
