It is said, truly, that no one is an island, no one stands alone… and that is most certainly true for those who plan, prepare, make and serve a feast in the Society.

This past weekend, I had the privilege to serve as Head Cook for Bright Hills “Harvest Wars” and I could not and did not do it alone.

My thanks to all the following…my friends, comrades-in-the-kitchen, my counsel, my family of choice…
Chirhart and Jeanne, for advice, support, all the stuff in the baronial trailer
Cordelia and Barre, for the very same, the baked apples and fiery caudle and the marvelous smoked duck that had everyone salivating before it was even served. I wonder if we could use that as a bribe…er…payment for fighters for Gulf Wars and Pennsic
Brienna and Gustav- bread…of COURSE bread, and transporting kitchen stuff and service in the kitchen
Bruce- you made a Baron cry! The pork is his alone, brined the Sunday before and baked and served by the wonderful hands of my staff. There was almost none left for the kitchen to eat…which is good.
Livia- who braided my hair. I was not bothered by it all day for which I am most certainly indebted to you.
Jarret- who served as master of the Hall and kept things going and served the Head Table served in a right proper manner.
Raven- oh Raven, what didn’t you do? You cooked, you cleaned, you hauled…oh…and I have your knives; they’re safe.
Lady Gavin- newest honorary member of the Bright Hills Cooks Guild. When you asked, “What can I do?” you did whatever was asked in a fashion that would make a Pelican stand up and cheer. From washing dishes, to cutting eggs, serving, cleaning…whatever was asked, she accomplished with grace and dignity and much laughter. THANK-YOU!
Alexander- for bringing your neatly covered water coolers and crock pots. Though unable to stay, as used dragons need much care and maintenance, we could not have had everything cooked on time if not for those lovely little slow-cookers!
To Kryss, Johanna, Richard (the OTHER Wyn), Kollack, Rebecca, Eleri, and Alifer for clean-up and packing help on Sunday. We were out by noon, the site looked great and I cross my fingers that I left nothing behind.
To Deirdre and Danielle for offering their crock pots, I am thankful for volunteers who trust me with their possessions. It is a very high honor.
Also a big thank-you to Tatiana, the autocrat and Scholastica her deputy for trusting me with such a feat, for their support and their friendship. This was the first feast where barely anything made it back to the kitchen. I heard that folks had taken to licking the bowls and plates…certainly not our fine Atlantian folk…fingers and bread would suffice! but…WOW! Such a compliment to the kitchen to have few, if any, leftovers.
I hope I have not missed anyone; my little grey cells are floundering of late. Please let me know if I left you out.
I have a few crock pots. Contact me and we will get them to their proper homes.
Blessings on all who attended, I hope the trips home were uneventful and I pray that we will meet again soon.
Be well, be happy, and be medieval…
