Today the BBC has a brief illustrated story about the Ancient Society of
Kilwinning Archers. This Scottish group continues a tradition dating to
the late 15th century of shooting a papingo (or to us, a popinjay) hung

Scotland's other traditional archery society is the Royal Company of
Archers, which provides the Sovereign's Bodyguard for Scotland. The
Royal Company of Archers only dates to the late 1600s, but shall we say
