Noble Friends, Especially Saxons and Vikings:

Today Wikipedia has two items of interest in their “Did You Know?” section.

The lead item is a link to a story about the Benty Grange Helmet, a Saxon helm discovered in a tomb in 1848 in Derbyshire. The helmet with its boar crest, and a modern reconstruction, are displayed at the Weston Park Museum in Sheffield: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benty_Grange_helmet

The second item concerns the grave of what may be a female warrior excavated in 1889 at Birka in Sweden. The grave was long thought to be that of a male Viking, but DNA testing this year surprised everybody when the skeleton was proven to be that of a woman. "Can’t have that, now can we?”, the nay-sayers are screaming. This certainly does upset the male-dominated Viking apple cart! Why not a woman? After all, the Valkyries were female. “Take that, male sexist pigs!” Read more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birka_female_Viking_warrior
