Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots:

Today BBC is offering a short illustrated piece on exciting excavations
of a Pictish royal site in Burghead, Scotland. Among their finds are a
hearth and foundations from a Pictish longhouse, dated to the 9th
century by the presence of a coin from the reign of the Saxon king
Alfred the Great:

. Another article from the Aberdeen PRESS AND JOURNAL has a charming
idea about teaching children the meaning behind Pictish stone carvings,
and idea we might adapt for our youth programs:

.

You can learn more about the Burghead fort site at
http://www.burghead.com/burghead-fort/ or
http://scotshistoryonline.co.uk/burghead.html . There is also a
Wikipedia article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burghead_Fort .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
