Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots:

Today the BBC has a brief illustrated feature about the excavations at
Trusty's Hill Fort in Galloway. The major fort there suggest that this
might be the seat of the lost Dark Ages kingdom of Rheged. This was long
thought to have been settled by Britons/Welsh like the kingdom of Strath
(later Strathclyde) to the north, but the whole issue is clouded by the
presence of Pictish-style carvings. These carvings might indicate an
influx of Picts in southeast Scotland, or simply cultural and trade
links. Who knows, but the finds are exciting and give us new insight
into the Dark Ages period of Scottish history:

More on the excavations at Trusty's Hill Fort, including a depiction of
the mysterious Pictish carvings, can be found at

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Proud Scot (whose ancestors are from Strathclyde)
