Noble Friends,

On this day in 1536, former Queen Consort of England Catherine of Aragon
died, probably from cancer. Catherine had originally married Arthur,
Prince of Wales in 1501. Both Arthur and Catherine developed "sweating
sickness" in 1502, from which Arthur died but Catherine recovered. The
parsimonious King Henry VII did not want to return the 100,000 crowns he
had received as half of Catherine's dowry, and so proposed Catherine
marry his second son, who would later become Henry VIII. We all know
what a disaster that proved to be for the bride and groom, as well as
England.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
