Noble Friends,

In 1499, the Revolt of the Alpujurras broke out among Muslims in
Granada, Spain. This two-year rebellion was a reaction to the forced
conversion of Muslims ordered by the Spanish Crown under pressure from
the Catholic Church. The Crown broke many promises and treaties
regarding religious rights of Muslims. By 1501 the rebellion was
crushed, and the remaining Muslims fled Spain or accepted conversion:

For more about the conversion of Spanish Muslims, including a
discussion of the guarantees of freedom that were violated go to

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
