Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

In 1510, the first copies of the ABERDEEN BREVIARY were released, the
first book ever to be printed in Scotland. King James the IV wanted a
Scottish breviary to replace the very English Sarum Right. To print
the breviary, Scotland's first printing press was imported, and noted
scholars were asked to write the text:

The ABERDEEN BREVIARY took a strongly Scottish patriotic stance, and
is filled with lives of, and prayers to, Scottish saints, as well as
honoring international saints important to Scotland.

The printing press, and literacy in general, were a two-edged sword
for the Catholic Church in Scotland. Printed books and pamphlets were
important to the Scottish Protestant Reformation a few years later.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
