Noble Friends,

On this day in 1502, Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales, died at Ludlow
Castle of "sweating sickness". Arthur was the son of King Henry VII and
Elizabeth of York. He had recently been married to Catherine of Aragon.
Upon Arthur's death, his brother Henry (later Henry VIII of six wives
fame) became heir to the English throne. Arthur's widow Catherine was
eventually married to Henry, allowed through a dubious claim that Arthur
and Catherine's marriage had never been consummated. This was later
"disproved" to allow Henry VIII to have the marriage to Catherine annulled.

You can read more about Prince Arthur at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur,_Prince_of_Wales .

Arthur was buried in Worcester Priory (later Worcester Cathedral), and a
spectacular chantry was erected in his memory:

. Among the decorations are some of the best depictions of arrows in
England:

. Worcester Cathedral also houses the tomb of King John of Magna Carta
fame. A general history of Worcester Cathedral can be found at

Yours Aye,
