Noble Friends,

On this date in 1356, the English under the Black Prince defeated a 
larger French army at the Battle of Poitiers. This was one of the three 
great English triumphs during the Hundred Years War. This was a great 
calamity for France. John II, King of France, and his son Prince Phillip 
were captured along with many other French nobles.
