On this date in 1570, Spanish Jesuits founded a mission on Chesapeake 
Bay in what would later be known as Virginia (making this the first 
European settlement in the Kingdom of Atlantia). The mission was 
intended to convert the native people, and was made of up several 
priests and brothers. It included an Indian interpreter named Don Luis 
who had been captured in the area some years before and educated in 
Spain. In 1571, the party were all massacred by the Indians, possibly 
led by Don Luis. The murders ended any Spanish attempts to settle this 
far north.
