[MR] Wikipedia: French Order of St. Michael

Noble Friends,

On this date in 1469 French king Louis XI founded the Order of St. 
Michael: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_Saint_Michael . It is 
interesting to note how many Scots are known to have been members of the 
order, hinting at the "Auld Alliance" between France and Scotland 
against England. The order was finally dissolved in 1830.

The Order of St. Michael was in direct competition to the Burgundian 
Order of the Golden Fleece:

still in business in Spain and Austria.
