Noble Friends,

Today marks the 1516 birth of Mary Tudor (Mary I of England, aka "Bloody
Mary"), the only surviving child of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon.
Mary was a staunch Catholic, and seized the throne in 1553 following a
brief a power struggle with the Protestant supporters of Lady Jane Grey,
the named successor of Edward VI. Mary's reign was brief, lasting but
four years. During that time she attempted to return England to the
Catholic Church, and had 283 Protestants executed (usually burned at the
stake for heresy). The martyrs included several bishops including
Ridley, Latimer and Cranmer. Mary finally died without issue on 17
November 1558, possibly of ovarian cancer, and was succeeded by her
equally staunch Protestant half-sister Elizabeth.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
