On this date in 1030, King Olaf II of Norway was canonized by Grimketel, 
Bishop of Selsey. His sainthood was later recognized by the Pope, and he 
remains the national saint of Norway. Whether St. Olaf deserved his 
status is dubious due to his brutality, and his miracles are considered 
propaganda, he did play a role in spreading Christianity through parts
