[MR] BBC: White Horse Gets Cleaned

This week volunteers have been dangling from ropes over a cliff to clean 
the White Horse of Westbury: 
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-wiltshire-36066414 . The horse is 
believed to date from the Dark Ages and may commemorate one of King 
Alfred's victories over the Danes.

The Westbury Horse is one of a number of gigantic hill figures across 
southern England. Some of these are known to be of fairly recent vintage 
and fall into the category of "follies", but others are hundreds of

These figures take a lot of work to maintain, and must be spruced up 
every few years. They are uniquely British, from a delightfully 
eccentric country filled with quirky features.
